In this hybrid work era, where workers are required to use multiple tools and technologies, the problem of digital distraction is growing. According to a recent study by Microsoft, digital workload can result in employee dissatisfaction and reduced engagement.

The study notes that the average video meeting time is now 10 minutes longer, and workers are dealing with 45% more business messaging chats per week. Nearly 42% of which are after hours.

In the industrial sector, the problem is further amplified by data flowing in from machines, tools, and systems. Data is flowing faster than the pace at which it can be analyzed. The number of tools and applications are beyond workers’ processing capabilities, and decision-making quality is eroding.

When working in a state of digital overload, tasks aren’t done as planned, errors become more frequent, and creativity and innovation suffer. This impacts employee morale, confidence, and generates unnecessary stress.

Capitalizing the Human Edge
